WASHINGTON (AFX) - A US Republican
senator from Nevada withdrew a measure he was to propose
barring French and German companies from US funds
earmarked for the reconstruction of post-war Iraq.
Senator John Ensign was to propose the amendment to
the near-80-billion-dollar budget supplement President
George W. Bush has requested Congress approve to finance
the war in Iraq and begin the post-war reconstruction.
Instead, he withdrew the measure one hour before the
scheduled vote on the budget supplement, officials in
his office said.
